Nominations are open for the Matt Mumber and Phillip Street Awards

Georgia CORE is now accepting nominations for the Matt Mumber M.D. Award for Advancing Cancer Patient Navigation and the Phillip H. Street Cancer Community Champion Award. Nominations for both awards are due Dec. 13, 2024.

The Mumber Award and its associated grant of $5,000 is awarded to an individual, team, or program that values and demonstrates innovative collaborations, patient-centered care, leadership, and advocacy within the cancer care community by connecting, educating, and sharing best practices among patient navigators in Georgia. The Phillip H. Street Cancer Community Champion Award -- also a $5,000 grant -- is given annually by the Board of Directors of the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education to an individual who demonstrates consistent and substantial service to Georgia’s cancer care community by giving their time, talent, and/or treasure to improve cancer care in Georgia. Lawmakers conclude listening tour on access to cancer care

Rep. Lee Hawkins, R-Gainesville, the committee’s chairman, said he and other lawmakers are working on drug pricing and other issues. He wrapped up the committee’s listening tour by saying the General Assembly will continue to study cancer care access.
