Dr. Steve McCune is the physician lead for the oncology service line of the Wellstar Health System. He has been a medical oncologist with Northwest Georgia Oncology since 2003. Dr. McCune earned an MD/PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a focus on gene therapy and blood substitutes followed by internal medicine residency at UAB. He then completed fellowship training in oncology at Duke University. He served as the principal investigator for clinical trials for Northwest Georgia Oncology from 2016 to 2025. Board-certified in medical oncology and hematology, Dr. McCune is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and a fellow of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research.
